Is it possible to reinvent the past? To which extent can fiction change the course of events? Marcelino Quijano y Quadra, erudite from Payanés and unbeatable gambler, a man of all ages and none, devoted to fabricating fictions, a craft as mysterious as he, steals paper letters and reads them, not only to track the novel that lies within every stranger’s fortune, but also to rewrite it and save it, like a discrete, anonymous, generous god. His last mission is so absurd and insane, that if it hadn’t truly happened, it would be unbelievable: the signing of peace, in 1988, between the kingdom of Belgium and the Department of Boyacá, at war since 1867, without anyone knowing.
